My first insect portrait! I actually really enjoyed painting this dispite my not so favorable attitude towards the general insect population! I really wanted this piece to represent part of my life in the south. Before I had moved to Tennessee, I'd never even heard of a cicada. Growing up in Oregon, we really didn't have many bugs, so imagine my surprise to the jungle of insects living in the south! This little painting of a cicada is accompanied by magnolia flowers, also a native to the south, and my favorite flower/tree in this area. Enjoy!
